United to Solve Homelessness Fund

Supporting local agencies that serve our unhoused population.

United Way of Mesa County (UWMC) serves as the backbone organization for United to Solve Homelessness: Mobile Outreach, Housing Navigation, Encampment Engagement, and more across Mesa County. UWMC provides the connective function fixed site systems cannot provide alone through consistent outreach and support. Join us in fueling this program and being a part of the solution!

Street Dog Coalition

Pet Assistance

The Street Dog Coalition provides free veterinary care to pets of people experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness via pop-up clinics. Free services include: physical exams, core vaccinations including rabies and parvo, flea/tick prevention and pet food/supplies (when available). Services offered while supplies last and time allows. Limited to 2 pets per person/family. Dogs should be on leashes and cats in carriers.

Volunteer bike technicians are available for basic repair and slightly used bikes are available if Service Hub participants need one.

Colorado Northwestern Community College Dental Hygiene Students

Dental Clinic

Next clinic: October 6th @ 11:30 AM

Students from the Dental Hygiene program at Colorado Northwestern Community College offer basic dental cleanings and evaluations. Upcoming clinics are at 11:30 AM on October 6th, and November 3rd, located at 1129 Colorado Avenue. Appointments are required; please call 970-773-7230 to schedule yours.

ALICE is an acronym for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. United Way of Mesa County teamed up with United Ways across Colorado for a study on ALICE families.

Poverty Immersion Experience

As phase 1 of the United to Solve Homelessness program, United Way of Mesa County is facilitating Poverty Immersion Experiences utilizing the Community Action Poverty Simulation kit (CAPS). This Immersion takes participants through a simulated month in the life of an individual or family member living in poverty. This powerful exercise can foster profound shifts in perspectives and inspire action towards creating a stronger and more compassionate community.

The experience offers a unique opportunity to step into the shoes of a low-income family, navigating life with limited resources, while providing for their children and accessing essential community services.  

Through this simulation, participants gain insight into the structural barriers and emotional challenges faced by individuals living in poverty. Understanding the tough decisions they must make, the fears they confront, and the frustrations they endure on a daily basis can enable our community to create meaningful support systems.
