INCREASING SELF-SUFFICIENCY 

Center for Independence (241-0315) New Horizons Vocational Center -promotes community solutions and assists people with disabilities of all kinds to live and work independently.  Direct Services -provides coordination to help individuals file for disabilities status. $9298

Child and Migrant Services (464-5226) Hospitality Center -provides and coordinates community services for migrant and settled farm workers and their families in Mesa County. $8056

Colorado Discover Ability (257-1222) provides adaptive, integrated outdoor recreation for people with disabilities, and their families.   $4560

Community Food Bank (640-0336) provides a nutritionally balanced, three-day emergency meal supply for Mesa County residents who are temporarily unable to provide for themselves. $22,692

Doors 2 Success (245-0388) Calling Mesa County Home- provides foreclosure prevention counseling and intervention. Supportive Services- Helps individuals maintain housing and low income families receive coordinated case management  to help them overcome the causes of their barriers to self-sufficiency. $27,292 

Grand Valley Catholic Outreach (241-3658) Housing Assistance-provides financial aid on a one-time basis to individuals and families who are threatened with eviction from their homes, and helps acquire housing for the homeless by assisting with first-month’s rent; Day Center-assists homeless persons by providing access to laundry, showers, phone & mail services,  and health care. Soup Kitchen provides a complete noonday meal six days a week to individuals and families who are hungry. $74,237

Grand Valley Peace & Justice (243-0136) Emergency Overflow Shelter Program- a community collaboration to provide a warm, safe overnight shelter during the winter months. $3,190

HomewardBound of the Grand Valley (256-9424) provides shelter and a light meal for men, women and families in a safe and respectful atmosphere; helps the homeless transition into self-sufficiency. $30,368

Housing Resources of Western Colorado (241-2871) Emergency Repair Program-provides emergency home repair services for low-income households. $4,586

Karis, Inc (241-1445) The House- a shelter for homeless teens. $11,651

Kid's Aid (712-2847) Feeding Friends Backpack Program- provides School District #51 students with nutritional food for the weekend. $6,799

The Literacy Center — MCPL (245-5522) provides free, basic literacy instruction for adults age 16+. $8,260

Mesa County Retired & Senior Volunteer Program, Inc.  (243-9839) Handyman Program- Volunteers provide minor home repair service to low-to-moderate income people and those with disabilities.  Senior Scholar Program- places senior volunteers in local and private schools to help children learn.  RSVP-Recruits senior volunteers for placement in local human service agencies. $8,179

Pro Bono Project of Mesa County (243-7940, x 108) a legal referral agency which places persons with an attorney willing to represent them at low/no cost, with priority given to domestic violence issues. $7,034

St. Mary’s Senior Companions (263-9092) recruits, trains and matches senior volunteers age  55+ to assist homebound elderly with grocery shopping, errands and appointments, helping to alleviate isolation and loneliness, and maintain their independence. $9,292

BUILDING STRONG FAMILIES 

Boy Scouts of America – Western Colorado Council (243-0346) builds character, leadership & life skills, preparing young people to make ethical decisions throughout their lives. $11,867

Court Appointed Special Advocates (242-4191) screens, trains and supervises citizen volunteers to serve as the voice in court for abused and neglected children living in foster care. $20,443

Girl Scouts of Colorado- Mesa County (242-4461) Troop Pathways-Youth development program conducted by adult volunteers who help girls gain life skills, learn how to relate others, develop values, and contribute to a multi-cultural community. Girls Are Great- a ten week transitional program for fifth grade girls. Power Up- a bully prevention program empowering youth to step up to stop bullying. $10,253

Grand Junction Imagination Library (208-9128) Provides a brand new, age-appropriate book to participating children each month until their fifth birthday at no cost to their family. $6,454

Hilltop Community Resources (242-4400) B4 Babies & Beyond-single entry point for prenatal care services for low-income women and a one stop health care access point for families with children who need primary and preventive health care services. Family First-an early childhood and parenting education program serving at risk families. Latimer House- provides a safe environment where victims of domestic violence can find refuge, support and resources for building violence-free lives. Grand Valley Senior Daybreak (241-7798) an adult day program that provides frail seniors with daily care and activities in safe, relaxed, enjoyable surroundings, allowing respite for caregivers. $48,162

Kid's Voting Mesa County (245-3414) a non-partisan, grassroots organization that cultivates the values of citizenship by giving young people the knowledge, tools and motivation for democratic living. $3,799

Mesa County Partners (245-5555) One-to-One Mentoring- provides trained and supervised adult mentors to youth from high-risk environments. Restitution/Community Service Work Program- juvenile offenders are supervised in performing community service work and earn stipends to pay restitution to their victims. Western Colorado Conservation Corp- employs and trains young adults (ages 16-22) by contracting with public land to carry out public land improvement projects. $42,886

STRiVE (formerly Mesa Developmental Services) (243-3702) Infant/Toddler Early Intervention- provides free, home-based therapy services to infants and toddlers diagnosed with or at risk for developmental delays. Respite- offers a pool of respite care providers specially trained in caring for medically fragile and emotionally disturbed children. $32,933

Riverside Educational Center (245-9512) a community-oriented program promoting academic success by providing a safe place to go for homework help, structured tutoring sessions, enrichment activities and by facilitating a strong communication link between home, school and student. $12,400

St. Mary's Foster Grandparent (263-9091) recruits, trains and matches seniors age 55+ with volunteer opportunities serving special needs children. $9,949

Parenting Place of Western Colorado (254-8240) Provides education, encouragement and support for parents and/or caregiver through newborn, infant, crawlers and toddlers groups. $3,634

Western Slope Center for Children (245-3788) a child advocacy center that facilitates & coordinates with governmental agencies and independent service providers to reduce the trauma of investigations of child sexual abuse, severe physical abuse and child witnesses to violence. $29,850

 

 PROMOTING HEALTH 

Colorado West, Inc. (257-6023) The Women's Recovery Center- provides long term residential treatment for women and pregnant women who are struggling with chronic substance abuse. $10,922

Counseling and Education Center (243-9539) provides affordable counseling for low-income/uninsured individuals and families. $20,359

Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado  (241-2212) Child & Teen Center and Grief Center- provides supportive individual and group counseling to children, teens, adults and families adjusting to the diagnosis of a life-threatening illness and/or death of a loved one. Transitions Patient Care- provides care coordination and services to patients with serious illness who are ineligible for traditional home-health or hospice care. $59,959

Marillac Clinic (255-1782) provides integrated medical, dental and optical services to low-income residents of Mesa County who are working to restore and maintain their health.  $48,628

The Salvation Army (242-7513) Adult Rehabilitation Program-offers a 6-month intensive and highly structured residential treatment program for men and women with severe life problems resulting from alcohol/drug abuse. $28,543

Western Colorado AIDS Project (WestCAP) (243-2437) Harm Reduction Program-delivers a series of health promotion and disease prevention programs targeted to at-risk adolescents. $8,125
